Why Do This?

This photo is from an article about the difficulties Chinese migrant industrial workers endure. They need to move from rural areas to factory towns to work, but expenses in the new locations leave them with little. This is a photo of a mother and her son.

Someone might think they have a TV for the sake of appearances. However, I took it as a totally different challenge.

Like any college student in the USA, like a bored Manhattanite on a Tuesday evening, like a lonely retired Italian schoolteacher, they want to be told a story. A story that reminds them with the beauty of being really alive. They could have bought a refrigerator, a washing machine-- who knows? But they chose a television.

Cable television is somthing like $4 per month in the third world. If we make this film good enough-- they will see it. They will feel the beauty, sadness, and fast-fleeting nature of life, because of your efforts. If you understand this message, and you have the talent to make this reach them, consider spending your irreplaceable time and add yourself to this story. These millions of people around the world, waiting for your story, waiting for something tender and rich and beautiful. We will touch them together.

That is why we are doing this.
